Hello Reader,
In continuation to yesterday's discussion on Willpower and in line with our theme…
It’s clear the best way to fight a vice is to practise and ensure its opposite virtue.
Not just in resisting the vice.
Or avoiding their patterns or effects.
But actively building a counter environment.
The goal is to transform society and not suppress or condemn it.
From our desires to our worship and our ambition, we should be creating a training programme that builds the right attitudes, motives, and practices for them.
As it is often said:
We become just by doing just acts,
Temperate by doing temperate acts,
And courageous by doing courageous acts.
So, it’s not just us thinking, educating, or admiring these good formations or virtues.
But by ensuring we create an environment within our possible circle of influence where virtues can be practised and rewarded, so necessarily, we don’t even have to condemn or focus on vices.
And as Paul has said, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” I believe he was not only talking about our reactions to evil but also our proaction towards society and the environment.
We should change our focus from contending with vices to redirecting it and ultimately to actively creating the necessary structure that should only permit what we want to see.
This is not an endless battle, nor is it an iron-fist mandate, but it should be, for us, a patient practice with oneself and others, through consistent showing up each day to train and reward the culture or society we want to live in.
Be Determined. Stay Focused.
Ekerete Lord-kris.

Reflection Prompt:
- If you stopped "fighting" your greatest weakness today and instead spent that same energy building its opposite virtue, what would your daily routine look like?
Deeper Dive:
- Scriptures: Romans 12:9-21, Philippians 4:8, Galatians 5:16
- Book: The Nicomachean Ethics (Book II) by Aristotle
- Practice Prompt: Identify one vice you see in your environment (e.g., gossip). Design one proactive "reward" for its opposite (e.g., publicly praising a colleague’s hidden contribution).
