Quote:
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is more delightful than wine.”
Song of Solomon 1:2
Hello Reader,
During my early years of studying all through the chapters of the Bible, among many, Song of Solomon was one of the books that fascinated me.
I had a lot to learn from it and jotted down a lot to put into literal practice sometime in the future, if you know... wink.
However, the book is mostly avoided in the churches and rarely discussed in youth groups, which I think is important.
Song of Solomon.
Eight chapters of desire, longing, and bodies celebrated.
The woman speaking: "Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth."
The man responded with detailed descriptions of her beauty—her eyes, her hair, her form, her stature.
While the debate of it being an allegory or not isn't our focus, rather, our concern today and for the series is why and how we should focus on it.
Because I believe God thought we needed a whole book showing desire working as intended.
The entire song is about committed love, mutual delight, and exclusive devotion.
"My beloved is mine, and I am his."
"I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine."
"Draw me after you, let us run together."
"Your stature is like a palm tree, and your breasts like its clusters."
"My beloved is radiant and ruddy, distinguished among ten thousand."
This is scripture, exemplifying the order of desire, passion with bounds, and love that should compound.
We read across this book, and we rush to allegory—"It's really about Christ and the church." I believe if we truly sit down to listen and read across the lines, we would truly understand our desires, passion and affection; it would do a long way for us, allowing us to be comfortable and reason through them.
Be Determined. Stay Focused.
Ekerete Lord-kris.
